When’s the Best Time to Hit the Road for Thanksgiving Travel?
For years, I’ve heard that the day before Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year. The truth is, it's not, but according to USA Today it is in the top 10.
The Greater Danbury area is a very busy place for vehicle traffic on an ordinary day, so we thought we'd explore this subject a little more. AAA says that this will likely be the busiest Thanksgiving on the road since back in 2005.
Travel and Leisure Magazine used traffic trends that Google produced last Thanksgiving to help us out this year. With access to all kind of formulas and numbers, they tell us that the worst time to take off on a road trip for Thanksgiving is Wednesday afternoon. They say you’re facing the flow of people getting out of work early to get their weekend started, and also the people leaving town.
You’ll own the road on Thanksgiving day early in the morning between 6 and 8 AM. Also after 8:00 PM. As far as the return trip, Saturday is going be a slow ride, but not as bad as Wednesday afternoon was. According to this study, early Saturday morning will be the easiest time to get out on the road.
Just the thought of construction plus traffic leads me to think: there’s no place like home for turkey day!
