WestConn Takes Down the Legendary Jim Calhoun in Danbury
Tip of the cap to WestConn's men's basketball team. They took down St. Joseph's at the O'Neill Center in overtime Wednesday 98-95. The Colonials were lead by Geary McLeod, who poured in 28 points.
Calhoun stunned the sports world last year when he came out of retirement to coach the Division III team from West Hartford. He was an acting consultant for St. Joseph's and decided he wanted to be back on the bench.
Calhoun's trip into the O'Neill Center did not go his way last night, and I think it's a pretty cool story for the players who played against his squad. Look, they didn't beat UCONN, but these young men can forever say they shared "the floor" with a basketball legend and got the best of him for one night.
On the other side of the ball, the St. Joe's players have a lot of weight to carry on their shoulders in every gym they enter. Pretty much every time they lose, someone like me will write an article like this. Ah well, they are not my problem. I live in Danbury.
WestConn, Still the BEST CON.
