Weather Ahead: Deep Freeze to Descend Upon Connecticut
As Connecticut begins to brace for bone-chilling temperatures over the next couple of days, meteorologists are getting ready to advise residents who are heat comprised where to go to seek shelter.
Lou and I often speak of Florida (Florida You Say!) as the land of reptiles and mutant human beings. But when the temperature takes a nose dive into single digits here in Connecticut, that's when I understand why a number of my friends have packed up and moved to the land of warmth and reptiles.
According to weather.gov, the following is the forecast for the Danbury area that has issued two weather statements.
Hazardous Weather Conditions - Wind chills near 0 to 10 below zero are likely late tonight into Tuesday morning. Tonight's overnight low will be around 13 degrees.
Special Weather Statement - Today's high will be near 27. Tonight's low will be around 8, with wind chills between 0 and 5 above. Tuesday, sunny and cold with a high near 16 and the windchill between -5 to 5 above. On Wednesday, we move into more balmy temps in the 30s.
For Danbury residents, there are two "Warming Centers" in the city, the New Street Shelter at 41 New Street which will be opened from 8 AM to 6 PM today and tomorrow (Monday and Tuesday) and after 6 PM, no one will be turned away at the Super 8 Motel, 3 Lake Ave. Ext, in Danbury.
If you live outside of Danbury, call 2-1-1 and they will direct you to the nearest warming center/shelter closest to where you live.
