I was a Dispatcher for Watertown, CT Police/Fire/911 in the late 80's. It was my third job ever and I was not ready for the responsibilities. I lasted 6 months and I quit after I was mandated to work my third 16 hour day in a row.

I wasn't prepared to listen to someone as they took their last breath, or trying to calm someone down after they were assaulted, in order to get a description of the suspect. I didn't think it was going to be an easy job, but I was so unprepared for the huge responsibility that came with it. Ultimately, I walked away with mad respect for what law enforcement employees have to go through 24/7/365 - the worst of the worst.
