Waterbury Hosting Third Annual Harry Potter Day
Hello Muggles, I'm nowhere near an authority on the Harry Potter world, but I know enough to realize how popular it is and also where a whole bunch of superfans will be gathering at the end of the month - Waterbury.
For the third time, Waterbury's downtown area and quite a few merchants will be hosting Harry Potter Day on Friday, July 30, 2021.
Waterbury Mayor Neil O'Leary issued an official proclamation on his social media yesterday announcing some of the details about the event.
What it says basically is: Waterbury's Harry Potter Day is "A magical day for all, filled with fun, magic shows, book readings, and other activities." It also fills us in a bit on the history of the event. The first Waterbury Harry Potter Day was on July 31, 2019. Why? Because July 31 is Harry Potter's birthday.
Mayor O'Leary's proclamation goes on to say that creator J.K. Rowling's works have inspired millions of young readers, encouraging reading and creativity in youth and adults alike.
Many of Waterbury's downtown businesses are participating in the event, a few of the events taking place on Friday July 30th, 2021 are listed on the Waterbury Harry Potter Facebook page.
One of the coolest merchants coming to set up shop in Waterbury that day is OrchardWorks from Stafford Springs, CT. OrchardWorks will be offering up their beautiful Magic Wands for sale on the front lawn of the Silas Bronson Library from 11AM - 4PM. Barnes & Noble in the Brass Mill Commons will offer special deals and discounts on Harry Potter books and merchandise, and the Café will offer up two special Harry Potter inspired drinks. Healthy Lifestyle Juice bar on Grand Street will also offer up a couple of special themed "Potions" for you to enjoy.
There will also be a strolling fire-breather, magic shows, special contests where you can win select prizes, and plenty of parking on the city streets and municipal parking lots throughout downtown. Waterbury's 3rd Annual Harry Potter Day happens Friday, July 30, 2021, and most of the festivities kick off around 11AM.
