UPS Driver Killed in Watertown, Police Searching for Teen Suspect
Horrible news coming out of Watertown this morning.
According to a press release we just received from the Connecticut State Police Troop L in Litchfield, at 10:36PM last night, Tuesday December 22, 2020, Troopers were called to the area of Exit 37 on RT. 8 Northbound in Watertown, on an initial report of a motor vehicle accident involving a UPS Shipping truck. The Troopers soon discovered that the UPS Truck driver had been victim of an assault, so they immediately called EMS, who rushed him to a local hospital, but the victim later succumbed to the injuries he received during the assault.
It's unclear what prompted the assault, but the police do have a suspect, whom they've identified, and believe fled the scene, but has yet to be located.
Detectives from the Connecticut State Police - Western District Major Crimes Squad are currently searching for Elijah David Bertrand - D.O.B of 9-6-01, described as a white male, 5 foot 7 inches tall, with blue eyes who they believe is a suspect in the incident.
Detectives are asking the public to remain vigilant as they pursue Bertrand, and that if you have any information pertaining to the suspect's location, to contact them at 860-626-7900. All information shall remain confidential.
I saw posts all over Facebook from friends who live in Watertown, and work at the UPS Facility off Echo Lake Road. There were numerous videos posted of the massive police presence on RT. 8 during the investigation.
Our thoughts and prayers from all of us at the radio station go to the victims family during this difficult time
