Just two weeks ago, I wrote an article about a temporary road closure in Wolcott for something that us Connecticut commuters know very well - bridge replacement. This road closure was on a very busy roadway, Route 69 - Wolcott Road and it took place on a Friday night into Saturday, June 18 & 19, 2021.

Well, according to the Wolcott Police Department, that temporary closure and bridge replacement has turned into a much bigger project and now the road closure is going to be a permanent-temporary closure for two months.

As of 8 PM last Friday night, (June 25) Wolcott Road/Rt. 69 is closed down between MacCormack Drive and Hillside Drive, until tentatively, August 26, 2021. There is a detour in place and the Wolcott Police advise you to follow the detour signs to get around the site.

Rt. 69/Wolcott Road is a major artery for Waterbury - Wolcott - Bristol commuters, and although the timing is pretty good with school being out for the summer, I'm sure there will be delays at the usual 9 AM and 5 PM commuter crunch hours around the detour route.

If you're driving North on Rt. 69/Wolcott Road from Waterbury into the detour site in Wolcott, you'll have to bear right onto Hillside Drive, left onto Brooks Hill Road, another left onto Bound Line Road, and another left onto Center Street, which will take you back to 69 by Pat's IGA. Headed Southbound into the detour site, you'll have to take a right  onto Potuccos Ring Road past the Cumby and follow that all the way down to hook you back up with 69 past the detour. right by the Urgent Care.
