I know a lot of people who commute between Waterbury and Bristol via Rt. 69/Wolcott Road through Wolcott every day. You might want to add a few minutes to your trip this weekend because the Wolcott Police Department has just announced that bridge construction will temporarily close Rt. 69/Wolcott Road by the intersection of MacCormack Drive Friday and Saturday, June 18 and 19, 2021.

The scheduled bridge construction will occur in what looks like two phases, according to the post. Starting on Friday, Wolcott Road will be periodically closed during the daytime between 7 AM and 3 PM. The workers will then take a break and start back up at 7 AM on Saturday morning. Wolcott Road will completely shut down to traffic for the duration of the construction project, which according to the Wolcott Police Department's post, will wrap up sometime in the evening on Saturday if all goes well.

There are no details of the detour, but if you're traveling North on Rt. 69, you'll have to take a right onto Hillside Drive, then a left onto Brooks Hill Road, another left onto Bound Line Road, and finally a left onto Center Street which will then take you back to Rt. 69 by Pat's IGA. Headed South on 69 into the detour, you should take a right onto Potuccos Ring Road by the Cumby and follow that all the way down to where it reconnects with Wolcott Road by the Urgent Care.

According to the latest forecast we're getting, it's supposed to be a hot one on Saturday, so hopefully the workers will safely get it done and take care of themselves.
