Every year, Connecticut waives its 6.35% sales tax for a week.

This year, the sales tax grace period is from Sunday, August 15, 2021 to Saturday August 21, 2021. During this week, retail purchases of most clothes and footwear, $100 or less, are exempt from Connecticut's sales tax. The exemption applies to an unlimited number of items. So, if you're a really big Top Hat guy, come and save in bulk.

I scoured the list of clothing items that are on the official CT.Gov website and there are quite a few unusual items on Connecticut's exempt list that you might not know about. For example, if you've been inspired by the Summer Olympics and want to protect your hair while you try and break the Butterfly 400 record in your pool, bathing caps are on the list.

If you would like to give Junior an extra $6.35 in his Graduation card, you could save on Graduation Caps and Gowns. Just think of the motivation of hanging that gown over the fireplace in the living room until next May's Graduation Ceremony. A constant reminder that you saved.

Ear muffs, who the hell doesn't need a luxury pair of ear muffs? It gets damn cold in Watertown in November. You can afford to upgrade to the Deluxe Faux Fur Ear Muffs next week. Golfers? It's your week. Golf dresses & skirts, golf jackets, golf shirts, ponchos, rain jackets, and baseball hats, basically your whole wardrobe except for golf gloves and golf shoes, all sales tax free, if they're $100 or less.

Yes, there are quite a few items that will still be taxed even if they're under $100. This includes: Athletic supporters, Lobster bibs, Wallets, Roller skates, Martial arts attire, and Handbags and purses, which Mrs. Large says "Boo" to.
