I hate when I have to write about store closings.

I feel like lately there have been a few openings that have gotten me pretty excited and I love watching businesses flourish here in Connecticut, but when it comes to closures, it makes me feel for the businesses a lot.

It is not easy to have a business right now and I give all business owners a lot of credit. I will always try to eat and shop local before going to a chain. It looks like another Connecticut business will be closing their doors at the end of the month.

Spuds Your Way is a place that specializes in all different baked potatoes. They were loved around their community and their storefront was at 3500 Whitney Ave in Hamden. Their main food item was baked potatoes, but they also had quesadillas, subs, wraps, burgers, etc.

Spuds Your Way took to Facebook to announce that they will be closing their Hamden storefront as of May 31. They will still have their food trailer that you can book whenever you want and that will be serviced all around the state. They followed the news thanking the community for their last 6 years at that storefront and that they're not sure what's in store for the future. They said maybe they open a new location, maybe they reopen the same location, but for now, the Hamden store will be closing their doors on Saturday.

Connecticut is really damn good at baked potatoes. I learned that quickly when I went to the Big E and saw how good Connecticut's were. After that, I started looking at the different baked potato places in Connecticut and realized that we know what we're doing in that department.

If you have time between today and Saturday, take a trip to 3500 Whitney Ave in Hamden and get yourself a baked potato. It's the least we can do to help a business in their time of need.

Four Businesses in Waterbury That Would Survive The Apocalypse

There are just some businesses too engrained in our neighborhoods that recession, price increases, cordyceps, and even the apocalypse could kill. I spent 50 of my years in Waterbury, and these four places have not changed, nor should they.

The Truth Behind the Most Popular Stereotypes About Connecticut

Is Connecticut an enclave for white hedge fund managers wearing salmon pants? Yes and no, the truth is always more complex than the homogenized identity assigned to a place for the sake of convenience. These are some of the most popular stereotypes about Connecticut and my final ruling as to whether they are TRUE or FALSE.

The Four Best Gyros That I've Recently Inhaled in Connecticut

Sliced, spiced lamb meat, roasted on a vertical grill, layered on a pita, slathered in Tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, and onion. A simple, traditional Greek gyro is a delicious treat. Some use lamb meat, while others use pork, beef, or even chicken. Here's the five best gyros that I've recently tried in Connecticut
