According to Newsweek, Dan Hurley isn’t just stacking wins right now—he’s stacking bonuses too. After UConn Huskies men's basketball took down Illinois to punch their ticket to the Final Four, Hurley added another massive chunk of change to what’s already a pretty outrageous payday this postseason. And when you start adding it all up, the number gets big in a hurry.

Here’s how it works. Hurley’s deal is loaded with incentives, so every step deeper into March Madness means more money in his pocket. Just getting into the tournament kicks things off, then each round they survive adds another layer.

By the time UConn made it out of the Sweet 16 and then pulled off that dramatic win over Duke, the bonus total was already climbing fast. But the real jump came after the Final Four win, when Hurley reportedly picked up another $300,000.

All in, he’s sitting at around $775,000 in tournament bonuses alone—and if UConn finishes the job and wins another national title, there’s even more waiting for him.

And look, whenever numbers like that start flying around, people are going to have opinions—especially in Connecticut.

Over on Reddit, one person summed it up like this:

“Another reason why my middle-class income gets clobbered in CT. Ok I get all the reasons why these D1 coaches make what they make, but c’mon $300k on top of the millions he already makes!! That $300k ‘Bonus’ would be life changing money for helluva lot of people in this State.”

Another user came in with the reality check:

“The flip side is that once you start making a $10M head coach salary, no one is very tolerant of down seasons.”

And that’s really the deal. You don’t get paid like one of the top coaches in the country unless you’re delivering like one every single year.

But here’s the thing—look at what Hurley has actually done. He rebuilt UConn into a national powerhouse, brought home championships, turned down the NBA, and now has this team right back on the biggest stage again. You can debate the money all day if you want. That’s fair. But when you’re producing at this level, in this sport, with this kind of consistency… Dan Hurley is worth every penny.
