Students will be able to return to the University of Connecticut campus this Fall.

The University announced its reopening plan on its website today. The school said, "The University of Connecticut is actively planning to welcome our new and returning students, faculty, and staff back to our campuses this fall. We are dedicated to working together with public health experts and our state to maintain a quality UConn educational experience while keeping our community healthy."

Residence halls will be open with reduced capacity, and students will be required to return to their dorms two weeks early to allow for testing and quarantine. Information on housing assignments will be sent to on-campus students in July. Dining halls will be open for take-out only to start the semester. If indoor dining is allowed as the year goes on, seating will be limited and tables will be spaced.

Classes will be provided both in-person and online. For students and faculty that are more comfortable staying with an online-only format, there will be accommodations made. Classroom capacity will be reduced to allow for social distancing.

Classes will begin on August 31, and students will not return to campus after the Thanksgiving break. The remainder of the Fall semester will be exclusively online.

The entire plan is based on the State's guidelines and conditions for reopening, such as "a sustained low and non-increasing rate of new hospitalizations in the state and the community surrounding each college." In addition, metrics for testing and contact tracing must be met, and there must be a plan to have enough PPE materials on hand. In addition, there must be a plan for a quickly implemented shutdown should another outbreak of the virus happen.
