It was announced during the Town of Southbury Zoning Commission meeting on January 14, 2021 that the Commission unanimously approved an application for a dual-concept restaurant to be built out in the Southbury Green shopping plaza, which is located on Main Street South in town.

I just found out the identity of the two new restaurants that will be opening up in the near future and it's exciting news. Lucas Local, a very successful Oyster Bar, Sea and Land Grill located on South Main Street in Newtown will be opening up a second Southbury location of Lucas Local. They will also be opening a new restaurant named Mission:Salad.

Lucas Local took to Facebook to tease the upcoming announcement:

In the comments, the owner confirmed they are opening a new location and stated, "we are opening two concepts in Southbury, Lucas Local and a fast casual concept called Mission Salad."

Southbury Green is already home to Shop Rite, Home Goods, Chip's Family Restaurant, Starbucks, Massage Envy and The Gap, so a couple of new restaurants will make nice additions to the dining lineup in town.

I've been saying for years that I wish someone would open up a place focused on fresh veggies and salads. Hopefully Mission:Salad will have some form of a giant salad bar in addition to ready-to-go mixes.

There are no indications as to what's going to be on the menu at Mission, but I can tell you all about Lucas Local. You'll find one of the area's best selection of fresh oysters at Lucas Local as well as other seafood favorites like Littleneck Clams on the Half Shell, Maine Steamers, Shrimp Cocktail, Mussels, Octopus, Arctic Char, Crabs, Lobster, and for you landlubbers - steaks, burgers, and Ostrich? Yes, you can get a slice of Ostrich Steak right now, interesting. There is no announced opening dates yet, but I'll keep my eyes on the construction, hopefully we'll see the new places open up by late spring.
