Tour This Palatial Ridgefield Estate Where Harry Houdini Practiced His Escapes
According to an excellent featured article in Connecticut Magazine, this magnificent Ridgefield mansion called "Sunset Hall" was originally put up for sale in January 2014 for the asking price of $5,750,000.
The estate was built in 1912 for the U.S. ambassador to Great Britain, James Stokes, who sold the property to Dr. Leopold Weiss, the brother of world-renowned magician Harry Houdini. In 1981, actor Robert Vaughn, the star of the 1966 hit TV show, "The Man from U.N.C.L.E", purchased the home where he and his wife lived until he sold it in 1998.
The mansion was put up for auction in 2017 for $4,750,000 and bidding was to take place on May 19 but was purchased before bidding was to begin. Sunset Hall's history runs deep. Take the tour with me, and I'll tell you all about it.
