I admit it, I've been Mr. Bah Humbug and acted kind of Grinchy the past couple years, but I'm ready.

My hometown and my former hometown are ready to celebrate the holiday season this weekend. This will be my first Christmas in Torrington, and I just found out that there's a big event going on in downtown this Friday (November 25,2022). Light up Torrington is happening along Main Street, Franklin Plaza, and Coe Memorial Park starting at 5:05PM. The event featured a Children's Choir performance, a Torrington High School band performance, the lighting of the tree at City Hall, a story-time reading with Mayor Carbone, caroling by the THS Choir, and music from Patti Adkins. Most importantly, Torrington Parks & Rec will be serving up free popcorn and hot chocolate.

Meanwhile, a little further South on Rt. 8 in my old hometown of Waterbury, the City of Waterbury will hold it's annual Christmas tree lighting on Sunday November 27, 2022, at 5PM on the Green in downtown. Waterbury has upped the ante Torrington, at Waterbury's event you can: Take a horse & carriage ride, meet Santa, enjoy music from the John Mobilio Holiday Quartet, Waterbury Valley Chordsman and the PAL choir, and chow down on popcorn balls, hot chocolate, and donuts. The ante upper? Anyone who brings a non-perishable food item will receive a free Frankie's hot dog (1 per person). I might have to defect, sorry Mayor Carbone, Mayor O'Leary? Got a dog for me?

My Favorite Works of Art in Downtown Torrington (So Far)

I thought Torrington was very similar to Waterbury when I moved to town, I was wrong. One difference is the incredible municipal support of the arts. I find works of art around town all the time, I love it. Here are a few of my favorites, so far.
