Believe it or not, according to a new study, there are certain towns in Connecticut where you're more likely to get pulled over by police.

The study was conducted by the Central Connecticut State University's Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy and it's actually very revealing. It goes as far as breaking down the reasons why police pulled over vehicles and the eventual outcome -- a warning, a ticket or a summons.

According to patch.com, aside from the usual traffic stops, there was some evidence in the study that suggests some departments had racial and ethnic disparities in the way minorities were treated during these stops. On the other side of the coin, the study also reveled that actually searching a minority's vehicle in the specific towns was much lower than searching a car driven by a white motorist. Also, the rate of actually finding illegal evidence in a minorities car was much lower then finding something in a car driven by a white person.

According to the new study, here are the top 5 Connecticut towns with the highest rate of traffic stops per 1,000 residents, followed by the number of stops during the past year:

  1. Wilton: 402
  2. New Canaan: 388
  3. Westport: 384
  4. Ridgefield: 372
  5. Windsor: 365

Danbury didn't make the cut when it came to the top towns for traffic stops, but they did top the list in certain other categories.

Danbury was at the top in regards to infraction rates with 63.7 percent, followed by Bridgeport at 59.9 percent.

The Hat City was also number one in cell phone violation rates, with 34.9 percent followed by runner up West Hartford with 30.4 percent.

The good news from the study revealed that about a third of stops ended with just a warning. The bad news is that 43 percent of those pulled over drove away with a ticket.

All in all, the number one reason for being stopped was for speeding, followed by driving while using your cell phone.
