As the 2024-2025 school year just starts to really get going, it's nice to know that your child is attending one of the best schools in Connecticut. That's the news this morning being spread among the parents at the three public schools in our state that have just been named Connecticut's 2024 National Blue Ribbon winners.

Governor Ned Lamont announced that the US Department of Education has named three public schools in Connecticut 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2024. They are Daniel Hand High School in Madison, Israel Putnam Elementary School in Meriden, and Sunnyside Elementary School in Shelton.

Select schools from across the United States that have demonstrated overall high achievement or successfully close achievement gaps are named National Blue Ribbon Schools and identified in two categories: Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing and Exemplary High Performing. Daniel Hand High School in Madison was named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School for Exemplary High Performing, and Israel Putnam and Sunnyside Elementary both were named 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools for Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing.

According to Governor Lamont, Daniel Hand High School students has shown strong overall performance for over a decade, exceeding state targets in accountability, absenteeism, with strong graduation rates for all students, and students with high needs. Lamont lauded Meriden's Israel Putnam Elementary School for their strong academic growth, and Sunnyside Elementary's students for their academic growth in the 2022-2023 school year, which placed Sunnyside among the top ten percent of schools in Connecticut in mathematics and reading for all students.
