The Winner of CT’s ‘Name the Snow Plow’ Contest Looks to Snoop Dogg for Inspiration
Have you ever noticed that Connecticut State snowplows have a unique aura about them, or like the French folk say, a certain "je ne sais quoi?"
In November, the Connecticut Department of Transportation decided to have some fun by announcing a new contest that encouraged state residents to name four of its snowplows. Gov. Ned Lamont revealed the winners last Friday:
- SCOOP DOGG
2. HUSKY McSALTY
3. BUZZ ICECLEAR
4. PLOWZILLA
According to NBC CT, the Governor even entered the contest with his suggestion, "Harriet Beecher Snow." He told NBC CT he'll give it another shot next year. The DOT bigwigs came up with the snowplow naming contest as a "fun way to connect and engage with the community," said CT DOT Commissioner Joseph Giulietti.
Over 1700 entries were submitted, and after the winners were chosen, the CT DOT placed the following message on their website.
Thank you!
We appreciate your votes for the Name the Snowplow Contest. Drumroll...The winners are Plowzilla, Buzz IceClear, Husky McSalty and Scoop Dogg. Thank you everyone who participated in the Name the Snowplow Contest. You can visit the snowplow trucks this fall at some of our local fairs.
As you well know, if it wasn't for the dedicated work of our state plow drivers, commuting to work and getting to school has the potential to become a living nightmare. According to the Hartford Courant, from November 1 through April 30, DOT workers are on-call 24/7.
They all have a go-bag ready full of clothes, snacks and personal items because when a storm hits, they never know when they might be home again. During the winter, their entire life is dependent on the weather. As one DOT official put it, "This job is not for everyone."
