The First Daffodils of Spring 2025 Have Debuted in Torrington
Today is the last day of February 2025, Daylight Savings Time is next weekend, and the first real signs of Spring have shown up at my place in Torrington.

The Winter of 24/25 has been a mixed bag of weather for Connecticut, we've received the majority of ice and snow storms over the past two months, but I don't need a calendar to tell me that Spring 2025 is right around the corner, just look at my little garden.
Mother Nature continues to amaze me every year, up until three days ago my little garden in front of my place was covered in about three feet of plowed snow and ice. Just two 45 degree days later, and the first Daffodil and Hyacinth plants have risen from the salty ground. That's something that we can count on every year around this time in Connecticut, one day it will be 48 degrees, and the next we get 4 inches of snow.
If you are ready to make 2025 the year that you attempt to grow your own vegetables, I did some research for you. According to ufseeds.com, Connecticut is in USDA plant hardiness zones 5-7, and Southern Connecticut is less vulnerable to those last killing frosts than Northern sections of the state. May is the general time for most of Connecticut to receive it's last frost, but there are a few hearty veggies that should start growing indoors now in March. Broccoli, Cauliflower, Spinach. and Beets are the first four that should be starting, with tomatoes, carrots, and onions up next.
Good luck, my green thumb has failed every year, I hope you have better luck.
