From the outside looking in, most of America would probably imagine that being a police officer in Connecticut is perhaps a bit less stressful than patrolling the two major cities we're sandwiched in between - New York City and Boston, and they're correct.

WalletHub.com has just released Best & Worst States to Be a Police Officer (2025), and Connecticut has been ranked as the second-best state for cops in 2025. Who beat us? California. In order to determine the best and worst states for cops in 2025, WalletHub compared the 50 states and DC across three key dimensions: Opportunity & Competition, Law Enforcement Training Requirements, and Job Hazards & Protection. Those metrics were then evaluated using 30 metrics, some of which were average starting salary, median income growth, law enforcement officers per capita, hours of required training, educational requirements, laws requiring officers to be trained to respond to mental health, substance abuse, and behavioral health issues, police body-worn camera regulations, degree of lethal force allowed for police use, and share of law enforcement officers assaulted.

WHY WAS CONNECTICUT RANKED AT #2 FOR 2025?

Connecticut requires all police officers to complete the most training in the country, 1,321 hours, plus 400 hours of field training (third in country). Connecticut has the third-lowest rate of police officer deaths per capita, and the fourth-lowest rate of officer assault in 2025. Connecticut also ranks as the third lowest violent crime rate in all of the US.

The Culinary Highlights Along Route 44 Through Litchfield County

I love exploring Litchfield County since I made the move to Torrington, there are so many underrated restaurants, cafes, and bakeries that don't get the attention of someplace in Hartford, New Haven, or Danbury. Route 44 is a major roadway that cuts across Northern Litchfield County east to west from Lakeville to New Hartford, if you're hungry, here are some great places to stop.
