Stone Temple Pilots will release a Super Deluxe box set of their second album, "Purple," on September 13. The cool news for CT rock fans is that a really great, previously unheard concert from the New Haven Coliseum is part of this deluxe edition.

The 3-CD/ 1-LP box set includes a remastered copy of the original album on both CD and vinyl, a disc of demos and outtakes, and a full, 17-song concert recorded at the Coliseum on August 23, 1994.

I know that this concert was a great one because I was there. I remember the stage had a giant lava lamp on each side, and that the band was in top form. The Purple album had just been released, so the show was made up of all the hits from their first album, Core, "new" songs from Purple that would come to be classics, and a couple of covers. Scott Weiland, for all his demons, was a certified rock star with tons of stage presence. I went to the show pretty much liking the band but left as a real fan.

Here's the track listing for the concert disc from the upcoming box set:

  1. “Vasoline”
  2. “Silvergun Superman”
  3. “Crackerman”
  4. “Lounge Fly”
  5. “Meat Plow”
