Candlewood is an eagerly anticipated horror movie that was shot right here in the Greater-Danbury area. The film was Directed by a filmmaker who happens to be from New Milford, Myke "Foo" Furhman.
There has been buzz around this movie from Day 1 of production as the movie makers went out of their way to involve the community in every stage of the process. I got a text from Myke the other day and I knew it had to be time. Myke joined us on the Friday (12/08/23) edition of the I-95 Morning Show.
Lou: Let's get right to it, tell us the big news!
Myke:"The movie is done and it's ready for people to see it publicly and I'm excited to do that. The whole movie distribution world is a big web of a lot of studio, distributors and this and that so we're working on selling it. We're going to get on streaming services, we're going to get a theatrical release but before we do that, we're going to do our first public screening of Candlewood at the Bank Street Theater in New Milford where it was shot because there is no better place to premier a movie than the place it was filmed. It's a beautiful theater, over 100 years old, I worked there in high school so it's kind of coming full circle for me and we're also going to have our world premier there which is scheduled for January 27th. It's going to be a huge red carpet event, there is going to be maybe a celebrity there, I don't know. The cast and crew will be there and it will be fantastic. The first people in the entire world being invited to the premiere are you guys and I hope you can join us."
Lou: So, January?
Myke:"There you go, it's going to be a red carpet premiere at the Bank Street Theater, there is going to be a premier party as well, great reception everyone who is going to be there, it's fantastic. So, we have that news and the tickets are officially on-sale for the public release of Candlewood which is going to start maybe that weekend January 31st, it might be the first weekend after that in February, I'm not entirely sure. But we do have tickets on sale right now candlewoodfilm.com People can go buy their tickets and redeem what they buy now, for whatever showing they want, and they get first dibs for whatever showing they want when it goes, you know full public release."
More on Candlewood the Movie from our August 31, 2022 interview with Furhman
What is Candlewood about?
"Candlewood is about a family who moves from New York to Connecticut (a rarity, I know). The family dynamic is fragile, a dad and his daughter + mother and her son, living not-so-happily ever after. The family starts to experience some oddities - both in terms of people and events that transpire. Without spoiling too much, their already rocky family vibe is thrown into chaos by a local urban legend and... well... crazy things happen."
How long has it been in production?
"Writing started mid-2021 and development/pre-production started earlier this year (2022)."
Who is behind this project Candlewood?
"Our executive producer is Victoria Flores, making this the first Latina led horror feature production team ever. She actually bought a home on Candlewood a few years ago, so her and I are both creating this picture as New Milford residents. She co-wrote the film along with Joseph Patrick Conroy (a NYC based writer/director). I am leading production locally and will also be assistant director, meaning that I'm assembling the team and the logistics behind creating the film and also running the set during production. Also producing alongside me is my production partner George Weiser, who is also our Director of Photography."
Why use New Milford and Candlewood Lake as the setting for this film?
"According to the first movie I ever saw, there's no place like home!! Truthfully, we love this town and want to do what we can to put it on the map. Victoria actually asked Mayor Pete Bass if we should make it a fictional town ("New Kent" was a thought), but the Mayor said no way, keep it in New Milford!"
You mentioned one of your colleagues passed away and that delayed production. We're sorry for your loss, can you tell us a bit about them?
"Bedhan Ball was a former tech entrepreneur turned filmmaker who had successfully made five low budget feature films into profitable ventures. The film is being dedicated to his memory."
What is your professional background?
"I'm an Emmy Award winning producer who started his career with CBS Sports, did a stint at Comedy Central and finally went on to become an independent producer and established Myke Foo Media, based in downtown New Milford. I work on all kinds of content - commercial, television and film. I'm a partner in a production company called World's Greatest who focuses on making content with Olympic athletes. When not on a big production I like to work with local small businesses and non-profits to create world class video content at affordable rates."

New Milford Man’ s Chilling Texas Chainsaw Massacre Truck Seen in Monroe
This past weekend’s (6/4/22) Barnum Festival in Monroe, CT was a success by anyone’s measure. It was a place to go see classic cars of all kinds, have some food and see live music. In that sea of automobile madness was a terrifying thing. There was a vehicle with a recognizable and chilling theme, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Truck. I spoke to the truck's owner Sam Gentile from New Milford, to find out how this came together, and why.

A Curious Excursion in an Underground Brookfield Tunnel
Recently, I was having a discussion with a friend of mine, I told this person I'd accessed some caves and tunnels in my hometown of Brewster, NY which is just over the NY/CT State Line. He knows how much I love local history, and saw how excited I was about this journey. He told me there was an area of Brookfield, CT that I needed to see, one that most residents have never seen. He told me about a tunnel, one that was not far away from where we were sitting. I made note of the conversation and bookmarked the destination for a future trip.
