Six-year-old Jesse Lewis was considered a hero for his actions on that horrific morning in December of 2012.

He was one of 20 children and six adults who lost their lives on that horrendous December day. Before the shooting began, Jesse began yelling at his classmates to run. Nine of his classmates are still alive today because they followed Jesse's last-minute direction according to the News Times.

Jesse's brother, 19-year-old, J.T who's running for a state senate seat actually spoke with the Vice President last May about his brother Jesse, who told his classmates to run before he was shot. Jesse is now on the shortlist of candidates for this coveted award.
