Upgrade to Railroad Crossing in Redding Closes Road, Affects Danbury Train Service
Sometimes you can't get there from here. News you need to know.
No one likes to get stuck not knowing which way to go, or can you even go at all. With that in mind, here's information that will affect both drivers as well as train users in our area over the next few days.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation has issued the following press release about Long Ridge Road in Redding and the upgrading of the railroad crossing there.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that work to upgrade the at-grade railroad crossing carrying the Danbury Branch of the Metro-North Commuter Railroad on Long Ridge Road in Redding, will begin on Friday, July 7, 2017. To facilitate the work, Long Ridge Road will be closed at the crossing beginning at 10 AM on Friday, July 7, until Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 4 PM.
On Saturday (July 8th) and Sunday (July 9th) there will be no train service between Danbury and Norwalk. Alternate bus service will be provided during this period. Bus schedules will be posted at the stations and online. Please refer to the MTA website for more information. Train service is expected to resume on schedule on Monday (July 10th).
There will be an increase in noise levels in the vicinity of the railroad crossing due to the construction. There also will be construction activities occurring at night starting Friday (July 7th) until Monday morning (July 10th).
The release goes on to say that a detour will be implemented via signage by Metro-North Commuter Railroad. But now that you are forewarned, it would probably be worth mapping out your own alternate route. And if you plan to use Metro-North, again make note of the fact that you should either change your plans, or get ready to hop on the bus service that will be available.
