Food & Wine just came out with a list of the best donuts available in America, in each of our 50 United States.

They have their work cut out for them, because damn, there are some great donut shops here in CT. Some of my personal favorites are Dottie's Diner in Woodbury, Grounds in Danbury, and Heav'nly Donuts in Derby.

Another legendary donut place that I personally love has came out on top of their list: Neil's Donuts, with their two locations in Wallingford and Middletown. In their article, Food & Wine highlights Neil's personal story about how he got into the business. What we care about are the donuts and if you've never been to Neil's, you must.

There is always a line going into the Neil's Donuts in Wallingford, there are always vehicles encircling the building in the small parking lot and there are always 15 young workers huffing their asses off, getting you some of the best donuts you'll stuff in your mouth. Neil's Key Lime Donut is an incredible burst of flavor when it's available. Their old-fashioned is legendary as is any of their cream-filled selections.

As far as neighboring states go, I've also recently tried Food & Wine's pick for Massachusetts - Donut Dip - in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Mrs. Large is from the area, and we stopped by on a recent weekend and tried their donuts, very good, but I'll still take Dottie's or Neil's over Massachusetts' finest.

Food & Wine chose Paula's Donuts in Tonawonda, outside of Buffalo, as New York's best donut representative. To see the whole list of Food & Wine's choices as the best donuts from each of the 50 United States, click HERE.
