Unfortunate news to report, as a local child has been tragically killed after police say he was struck by a vehicle.

According to the NBC Connecticut, police responded to an emergency 911 call in which it was reported that a boy less than two years old had been hit by a vehicle outside of a North Wilton Road home in New Canaan around 8:45 AM on Tuesday, December 10, 2019.

First responders on the scene say the boy was struck by the vehicle in the driveway of the residence, and he was immediately transported to Norwalk Hospital, where the injured toddler was later pronounced dead.

As of this writing, the child's identity has not yet been made public, and authorities have not released any further details regarding how the incident happened or who was driving the vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by the New Canaan Police Department's Accident Reconstruction Team, as well as reconstruction teams from Wilton and Darien.
