Police: Newtown Man Accused of Threatening and Firing Gun

A local man turned himself in to authorities on weapons and threatening charges on Wednesday (May 13) upon learning that there had been an outstanding warrant issued for his arrest.

According to the Newtown Police Department, 55-year-old George Geanuracos of Newtown was arrested as the result of a complaint in which he allegedly threatened to shoot two individuals before producing a hand gun and discharging it.

Police say that the two unidentified individuals arrived at Geanuracos's home to drop off some items that reportedly belonged to him.

According to the victims, the Newtown man was expecting them to drop off the aforementioned items back on April 23, but upon their arrival to the Huntington Rd. location, Geanuracos allegedly told the victims he was going to shoot them.

From there, police say the accused walked back into his Newtown home, returned with a handgun and then shot in the direction of the victims, but the bullets did not strike them.

After receiving the disturbing complaint, members of the Newtown Police Department reportedly executed a search warrant on Geanuracos's house, where evidence allegedly tied to the investigation was seized.

After turning himself in to police, George Geanuracos was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment in the second degree, threatening in the first degree, criminal possession of a firearm, disorderly conduct, and Illegal discharge of a firearm.

The Newtown man was held on a $100,000 bond and transported to Waterbury Superior Court for arraignment on the above listed charges.
