Police: Newtown Man Accused of Sexual Contact With Children
A Newtown man is facing twelve charges in a case that accuses him of having sexual contact with local children.
According to a press release from the Newtown Police Department, 72-year-old Richard Saunders of Huntington Rd. turned himself in to police on Monday (July 31) on an active arrest warrant. Police say that the warrant was issued as a result of an investigation from the Newtown PD's School Resource Officer, William Chapman, that began after the department received the initial complaint on July 8.
At this point, police believe that there are multiple children involved in the case and that they are all under the age of 16-years-old.
Richard Saunders has been charged with four counts of sexual assault, four counts of impairing the morals of a child, and four counts of risk of injury to a minor. He was held on a $100,000 bond and was arraigned Monday (July 31) at Danbury Superior Court.
