A police officer was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on a section of the Taconic Parkway in Putnam Valley Wednesday afternoon.

A ground of officers on motorcycles were involved in a training run when a car merged from Bryant Pond Road onto the southbound parkway at 1:50PM. The motorcycles took evasive action to avoid the car and two of the bikes struck each other, according to a press release from the New York State Police.

A West Haven, Conn. officer driving one of the motorcycles was ejected from his bike. He sustained serious injuries and was transported by LifeNet Medevac to Westchester Medical Center. The second rider was not injured.

The Taconic was closed for several hours as a New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the crash.

New York State Police requested witnesses to the crash contact the State Police Cortlandt Bureau of Criminal Investigation at (914) 769-2600.
