Police: Putnam County Man Has 2-Hour Standoff With Deputies
A two-hour standoff with police ensued after a Putnam County man allegedly made threats towards an insurance company.
On Friday, an insurance company told the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office that a Putnam Valley man made threats over the phone about employees from the company.
When officers arrived at the man’s home, on Cedar Street, he refused to open his door, began screaming at the deputy from inside and made statements indicative of extreme emotional disturbance, police say.
Additional sheriff’s deputies and members of the Putnam County Emergency Response
Team responded to the area outside the house while a sheriff’s negotiator talked to the man over the phone.
After two hours, the man who police described as emotionally disturbed was persuaded to come out of the house.
Authorities transported him to the Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel for psychiatric evaluation.
