Tragic news out of Brookfield's Candlewood Lake area this morning, as a late night car crash has left one person dead.

According to the Brookfield Police Department, officers responded to Candlewood Lake Rd. following reports of a motor vehicle accident at around 10:45 PM on Saturday (June 8) right at the entrance of Candlewood Birches on Candlewood Lake Rd.

Police say the vehicle had been headed northbound just after coming around the bend in front of Echo Bay Marina, somehow left the roadway and hit a nearby utility poll before colliding with a parked vehicle.

Members of the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department reportedly extricated the driver from the mangled car, and that person was rushed to Danbury Hospital, unfortunately being pronounced dead at about 11:30 PM.

That particular section of Candlewood Lake Road remained closed for a period of time while the utility pole was replaced and Emergency personnel remained on the scene until around 2:00 AM.

At this time, the name of the deceased is being withheld until the next-of-kin has been notified.

We'll keep this story updated.
