Police: Danbury Teen Killed in Apparent Drive-By Shooting
Some disturbing news to report out of Danbury this morning, as Juneteenth / Father's Day weekend in the Hat City ended in a incredible tragic fashion on Sunday night (June 20).
According to the Danbury Police Department, an investigation is underway in the wake of what police say was a drive-by shooting that left one local teen dead.
At around 8:00 PM on Sunday evening, June 20, 2021, Danbury Police say they received multiple reports from residents claiming to have heard gunshots ringing out in the area of Mill Ridge Road. When responding officers arrived, they reportedly found a gathering of residents in the area of 19 Mill Ridge Road attempting to provide aid to 18-year-old Yhameek Johnson of Danbury.
Police say that just moments prior to their arrival, Johnson had been the victim of an apparent drive-by shooting. While awaiting emergency personnel and an ambulance to arrive, the officers on the scene cared for Johnson before we was later transported to Danbury Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
As of this writing, the person or persons responsible for the shooting have not yet been identified or apprehended, but are believed to have been driving what's only been described as a dark-colored SUV.
While the investigation into the drive-by shooting, the potential suspects, and a possible motive is active, Danbury investigators ask that anyone who has any information at all in regards to tragic crime immediately contact the Danbury Police Department's tip line at 203-790-TIPS or to contact the case's assigned investigator directly via email at J.Williams@danbury-ct.gov.
This is a developing story and we'll continue to keep you updated as more information rolls in.
Our deepest condolences and sympathies go out to the friends and family of Yhameek Johnson.
