New evidence has surfaced in the missing person investigation of Ms. Janet Avalo-Alvarez.

Alvarez was first reported missing by co-workers and friends on Friday evening at 11:37 p.m. on November 13. Waterbury Detectives have identified Alfredo Peguero-gomez as a person of interest in Alvarez's disappearance.

Detectives have been tracking Peguero-gomez's whereabouts since Ms. Avalo-Alvarez left the "La Guakara Taina" Bar in Waterbury on Nov. 12. The missing person investigation led Waterbury Detectives to a wooded area off Route 69 from Waterbury to the Town of Wolcott.

Detectives have discovered a body in that area and the Waterbury Forensic Division has been processing the crime scene. The Medical Examiner will release the cause of death along with the identity of the victim as soon as the information becomes available.

Waterbury Police are asking the public to share any information they might have involving this ongoing investigation. The direct line for Waterbury's Detective Division is 203-574-6941.

This is a developing story and we'll be sure to keep you updated as more information rolls in.
