It's a big weekend if you're Catholic, today is Good Friday, and this Sunday, April 4, 2021, is Easter. Waterbury has always had a huge Catholic community, I am a Holy Cross HS graduate, and OLMC on Highland Ave is my church (Right Mike C?).

One of Waterbury's most distinct features - Holy Land USA and the massive illuminated cross stands tall overlooking the city. It's a beautiful location for an event, and even though the theme park is long gone, Holy Land USA has been a beacon of hope in the Brass City for decades.

Waterbury has used Holy Land as the launching pad for the city's Fouth of July fireworks and just this morning, Waterbury Mayor Neil O'Leary announced on his official Facebook page that there is going to be an outdoor sunrise mass this Easter Sunday morning held at Holy Land USA.

This Easter Sunday morning, weather permitting, the gates to Holy Land will open up to the public at 5 AM. In the event of rain, or inclement weather, the event will be cancelled. The sunrise mass will begin at 6:15 AM. Please bring a folding chair with you to sit on, and dress accordingly, as of now (Noon on Good Friday)

The forecast is for partly cloudy skies and the mid 30's. Attendees will have to park in the parking lot and walk to the top of the hill, so wear appropriate footwear. There will be a couple of special spots close by for those unable to make the walk, check with an attendant if you need as you drive in. Social distancing guidelines will be in effect, and masks must be worn. The sunrise mass will also be streamed on the Immaculate Conception website, and also via the Holy Land USA social media accounts.
