NY’s TWA Hotel Is The Perfect Nostalgic Date Night
Travelers coming in and out of JFK have been getting the double-take treatment. TWA is back in a big way, but it's not for air travel. The defunct airline is now the centerpiece of a trip back in time.
The TWA Hotel opened a week ago (5/15/19) at JFK airport and it is scratching me right where I itch. The hotel took $265 million to build over a two-year renovation and looks to me like it was worth every penny. The hotel has 483 rooms, 22 suites and a 10,000-square-foot observation deck with an infinity pool. Starting costs for a room at the TWA? $249 dollars a night and to me, completely worth it. I've spent that on other hotels that were supposed to be amazing and I did not have my skirt blown up. I need my skirt blown up.
I'm not going to be waiting for my next inconvenient flight to stay at TWA. For my next date night with my wife, we are going to Queens and dressing like Don and Betty Draper. It's going to be Halloween in July. We will head to the bar, I will order some stinky old bar drink no one drinks anymore because it has 53 types of conflicting alcohol in it and we are getting to party like it's 1963.
I'll admit it, I'm nostalgic and I think most people are too. In fact, if you say you are not, you're a liar. My wife likes to dress up, so she would enjoy this. Do you have to dress to match the hotel? Of course not. I just want to.
This hotel is for me, for sure. I wonder if the phone actually works and costs 10 cents? If it does, I could blow an hour and a half calling friends from the payphone after about six Old Fashioneds.
Book the room for the weekend (yep, it's a weekend now), get some vintage clothes, some dinner and drinks, and now it's an $1,100 weekend, so worth it.
I'm going to step back into another time at the TWA Hotel. Any distraction from the current time is worth it.
P.S. - Hotel sex = the best.
