Each year, Neighborhood Scout puts out a list of the 100 safest cities in America and for 2023, they found that Ridgefield is the safest in the nation. They say your chances of being a victim of a crime is 1 in 510 and the total crime rate per 1,000 residents is 1.9. Here are the Top 5:

1. Ridgefield, CT

2. Franklin, MA

3. Lake in the Hills, IL

4. Marshfield, MA

5. Arlington, MA

Ridgefield was not the only local town to make the Top 100 list. New Milford was ranked #92 with a 1 in 122 chance of being the victim of a crime and a crime rate of 8.1 per 1,000 residents. Wallingford was #53 with a 1 in 146 chance of being a crime victim and a total crime rate of 6.8 per 1,000.

The Patch spoke to Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi about the distinction, he said:

We've been a quiet town for many, many years and the police do an excellent job. Understanding situations and discussing situations and not necessarily taking the hard position.

Congratulations to our friends at the Ridgefield Police Department and town officials. Your work to keep everyone safe is truly appreciated. Now, someone needs to fix the parking and traffic in town and everything will be as good as possible.
