UPDATE: We've just received word from the Director of Health in Sherman/New Fairfield that Squantz Pond has been officially cleared of E.Coli and that swimming can now resume.

If you were planning on taking a dip into Squantz Pond, you won't be able to do that today. The swimming area of Squantz Pond State Park is off limits today because of indicator bacteria.

We spoke with the Director of Health of Sherman/New Fairfield, and he confirmed that the bacteria found was indeed E-Coli.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection are expecting further test results tomorrow (Thursday, June 21) afternoon.

After the macroburst on May 15th, Squantz Pond was closed to swimmers because of damage to the area. This time, however, the closure is due to this bacteria.

We'll be sure to keep you updated on when the pond will be re-open to swimmers.
