So early this morning I woke up to my iPhone with a message stating the state of CT was under a tsunami warning. We can all go to sleep better this evening knowing that a tsunami ISN'T coming our way!

According to WTNH, The state Department Emergency Services said a tsunami warning for Connecticut was broadcast from the National Weather Service by accident this morning.

We actually received this explanation from the CT Broadcasters Association here at the radio station as well:

At approximately 8:24 this morning the National Weather Service launched a closed circuit EAS Tsunami warning.  This was not meant for broadcast.  However, the Brookhaven Long Island office of the NWS did accidentally transmit a Tsunami Test Message containing a Test Tsunami Warning over NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards. Some stations in Connecticut picked this up and sent the warning to air.  There is no threat of a Tsunami.

How would we ever get a tsunami in our area of the world?

I guess if some active earth plates moved out in the Atlantic, it could happen. Thankfully none of those areas have known active plates, as of now, in the Atlantic.

Now, for that plate underneath Indian Point Power Plant in NY....that's another story.
