Whether you're new to the great state of Connecticut or planning a move, here are some things that can help you get acquainted with the Nutmeg State thanks to Lydia Ryan from Hearst Media Services.

1. Know the Terminology....A sandwich loaded up with meat, veggies, and cheese is a "Grinder or Sub".....not a hoagie or a hero. A soft drink is called a "Soda" not pop.

2. Lobster Rolls DO NOT Have Mayo...Lobster rolls in Connecticut are made with hot butter, not mayo.

3. CT Does Not Shut Down By 10pm....Most CT towns have at least one 24 hour diner if you choose to feed your face at 1am.

4. Booze is Not For Sale in Grocery Stores....Even though CT can now sell liquor on Sunday, you'll still have to make a special trip to the package store.

5. UCONN College Basketball Rules....CT is one of the few states that follows women's college basketball more closely than the mens because the Lady Huskies consistently RULE year after year!

6. We've Got Your Resort Casinos Right Here....Whether you're looking for nightlife, you love to gamble, or big league entertainment, we've got you covered with two gorgeous resort casinos......Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods.

7. Connecticut's Expensive....Do your research before you make the move to Connecticut. It's one of the richest areas in the United States so the cost of living will do a number on your wallet.

8. Make Friends With Someone Who Has A Beach Pass....Many of the Gold Coast beaches are private but there are many public beaches as well. Whether you live near Candlewood Lake in the Danbury area or one of the CT coast beaches, make friends with someone who has a beach pass. You'll thank me when the temps wander up into the 90's.

9. Upgrade Your Camera....The scenery in Connecticut is breathtaking from foliage to sunsets, and you want to be ready with something other than a disposable camera. Check out some of my photos........
