Danbury FD Trains With New Gear in Light of Fallen Tree Deaths
Members of the Danbury Fire Department have been training on their new Res-Q-Jack struts.
Due to the frequent fierce weather in the greater Danbury area over the last six months, the Danbury Fire Department has been training on their new Res-Q-Jack struts according to the department's Facebook page.
Strong thunderstorms, tornadoes, and macro-bursts have been the cause of numerous downed trees. On May 15, a New Fairfield woman lost her life when a tree landed on her pickup truck. In July, two individuals lost their lives to fallen trees and on July 24, a passenger in a truck traveling on Padanaram Rd. was crushed to death when a tree came down on the truck.
With the purchase of their new Res-Q-Jack struts, Danbury firefighters have been working diligently on vehicle stabilization by working on several difficult challenges as they practice removing victims and vehicles from under fallen trees.
