Police say a stabbing in New Milford has left two people dead.

According to WFSB, investigators believe that a fight of some sorts broke out at Young's Field around 7:00 PM on Monday, March 9, prompting a nearby witness to dial 911.

When police arrived at the scene, they say they found an unidentified 38-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds, with witnesses claiming that her assailant fled the scene by jumping into the Housatonic River.

While the woman was pronounced dead shortly after emergency personnel rushed her to Danbury Hospital, members of the New Milford Police Department Dive Team reportedly recovered a body around 9:15 PM, which they believe is that of the assailant. He has been described as a  32-year-old man.

Members of the NMPD made it clear that the incident was isolated and that there is no threat to the public.

As of this writing, the circumstances surrounding the two deaths are being investigated.

While the names of the deceased have not yet been released, both the victim and the suspect are believed to be Danbury residents who knew each other.

This is a developing story and we'll be sure to keep you updated as more information rolls in.
