New Milford PD: Bodies of Both Missing Swimmers Recovered

Police say the bodies of two young men from the Bronx have been found in New Milford following a recovery effort that lasted for four days.

As previously reported, the search was prompted after the two men, ages 21 and 24, were "observed going underwater," by friends and family while swimming in the Housatonic over near the Bulls Bridge Power Plant off of the river's east bank on Wednesday afternoon (June 10) at around 4:50 PM.

Dive teams and rescue units from various agencies, including emergency personnel from New Milford, Sherman, Kent, Bantam, Woodbury, Danbury and the Connecticut State Police, were called into action.

As the rescue initiative begun on Wednesday, New Milford's Mayor Pete Bass noted that this search was particularly challenging, given the strength of the river's current in that area.

After search efforts on Wednesday and Thursday were unsuccessful, the New Milford, Brookfield and State Police dive teams remained diligent and on Friday, recovered the body of the 21-year-old victim.

Friday's search for the second victim ceased late in the evening on Friday, but began again on Saturday, and by Saturday evening, the 24-year-old man's body had been recovered, according to the CT Post.

Exact details of the search, like how long it lasted and where exactly the victims were found, have not yet been released, but New Milford Police Lt. Earl Wheeler confirmed the news Saturday night.

While both victims were identified as a 21-year-old male and a 24-year-old male, both of the Bronx, police have not released their names as of this writing, pending investigation.
