Multiple Danbury Fire Crews Battle Intense Late Night Blaze
Multiple fire crews from around the city sprung into action on Wednesday night (March 25) to battle an intense blaze in a quiet Danbury neighborhood.
Just around 11:20 PM, first responders began to arrive at the reported structure fire at a home on the corner of Royal Road and Stadley Rough Road. When the Danbury Fire Department arrived, smoke was billowing out of the front door of the home and flames beginning to advance in the rear.
While Danbury EMS evaluated the single occupant of the home, who was able to escape the fire without injury, additional units arrived to the scene to begin to knock down the blaze.
Because of the location of the fire, and the fact that there are no hydrants in the area, the Danbury Fire Department initiated an extensive overhaul, brining in volunteers from Germantown Volunteer Fire #10, Beaver Brook Vfd and Mill Plain Independent Hose Company, #12, who responded with tankers and manpower. The DFD also reports that Water Witch Hose Co. #7 responded with lighting and air support, while Danbury police officers and fire police assisted with securing the scene and closing both Stadley Rough Road and Royal Road.
In an official statement, Danbury FD Communications Coordinator James Gagliardo said, "Fire crews did an excellent job knocking down the fire considering what they faced on arrival."
On a personal note, this one was a little too close to home. In fact, as I'm writing this article, I can smell the scent of the burnt wood and can hear the deconstruction crew working to clear the debris and secure the rest of the home, as this tragedy occurred just mere feet from my doorstep.
My deepest sympathies and prayers are with the home owner, my neighbor, especially in the very turbulent times we are all living in.
On behalf of my family and neighborhood, a very heartfelt thank you goes out to all of our local first responders who, in a time when life is happening from a distance and tensions are high, put their lives on the line without hesitation to keep our community safe.
