There has been a lot of construction activity going on at the old Kmart building on Straits Turnpike in Watertown over the past few weeks.

I drove by this morning and I was surprised to find that one of the new businesses seems to have already opened their doors up for business. Universal Fitness, which up until last week operated out of the Steelebrook Plaza on Watertown Avenue in Waterbury, has become the first place to officially open their doors in the converted old Kmart building at 595 Straits Turnpike in Watertown.

I pulled up and saw that the place opens early, at 5AM Monday through Friday, and at 7AM on the weekends. That should be great news for all of the car salesmen and auto mechanics along automotive row there who want to get in a workout before the shops open up.

I also noticed another business is starting to shape up on the Bunker Hill Avenue side of the building. It appears that Watertown Auto and Truck Parts, Napa's new location is well underway, and I saw a post by their owner on Facebook saying that the last coat of paint is done, and the place is just about ready for shelving:

The other business that has put up their sign on the new building, Ace Hardware, is currently hiring, I've seen a couple of ads for an assistant manager and sales associates for the future location. No sign yet of the other business that I've read rumors about on Facebook - Jersey Mikes - yet. I'll keep you posted.
