An absolutely awful accident that occurred on I-84 Eastbound near Exit 15 in Southbury last night has claimed the life of a 52 year old man from Milford.

According to the Connecticut State Police - Troop A in Southbury, on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at 11:39PM, Two vehicles were traveling along I-4 Eastbound in the vicinity of Exit 15 in Southbury. Vehicle #1, a 2015 Subaru Outback, was traveling in the right lane. Vehicle #2, a 2012 Toyota Camry, was traveling in the left lane behind vehicle #1.

A pedestrian, identified as Ricky L. Izzard, 52, of Milford, began crossing the travel lanes, walking North across the highway. Izzard was first struck by vehicle #1 in the right lane, and then struck again by vehicle #2 in the left lane. Izzard suffered serious injuries, and was pronounced deceased on-scene.

The operator of vehicle #2, identified as Chaim Bernstein, 51, of Cables Ave, Waterbury, also sustained minor injuries, and was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury for treatment.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is being asked to contact Trooper Lopez #765 at 203-267-2200.
