October 2, 2021 was a monumental day for the music community in Connecticut. A new live music venue opened its doors on the Danbury-Ridgefield line, called the Sugar Hollow Taproom.

For years I've heard musicians complain about the lack of places that feature live music in the Greater Danbury area. For example, my singer/songwriter son, Ethan James, always drove to New Haven to play a live gig with his band, Fiction.

I talked with Brian Teagarden, one of the venue's owners, who told me he and co-owner John Connor completely remodeled the inside, adding soundproofing and a beautiful bar where you can enjoy beer crafted by Connecticut's breweries such as the Redding Beer Company, Housatonic River Brewing, and Two Roads Brewing Company. Unfortunately, they don't serve food, but a food truck is on the premises.

Since opening, Sugar Hollow Taproom has received rave reviews from both musicians and patrons who enjoy and appreciate the variety of live music it offers. On the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month, a handful of singer-songwriters perform a round-robin of original acoustic music.

On Wednesdays, well-known area singer-songwriter Jonny Chapman hosts open mic nights and on Thursdays, get ready to rock. On the second and fourth Thursday of the month is Jam Band night and on the third Thursday of each month, the Sugar Hollow Taproom welcomes all Deadheads, where musicians can play and celebrate the music of the Grateful Dead.

If you love live music, owners Brian Teagarden and John Conner told me, "There's no other place like it!" It's all about the vibe, the music, and homegrown crafted beer. Sugar Hollow is located at 66 Sugar Hollow Road, Suite 8 in Danbury. For more info and to check their live music calendar, visit sugarhollowtaproom.com or call 203-300-5454.
