It's been a busy month so far on Lake Avenue for Danbury Firefighters. The most notable came at on January 3, when they responded to a blaze at Puppy Love, and last night (Monday), they were busy again fighting a fire at Marcello's Deli and Catering.

According to a press release from the Danbury Fire Deparment, the fire broke out late Monday night at 76 Lake Avenue, home of Marchello's Deli and Catering, and by the time the Danbury Fire Department responded just before midnight, there was already heavy smoke coming from the building near the corner of Lake Avenue and Hobson Street.

The three alarm blaze, which required the help from the Bethel, Brookfield and Ridgefield Fire Departments, took a while to get under control due to the cold temperatures. Water that was being used to battle the fire kept freezing, as temperatures were in the mid-20s. Danbury Public Works responded to the scene as well to assist with icing conditions.

Fortunately, there was no one at the deli at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported. The Danbury Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, which is undetermined at this time.
