Lamont’s New Toll Proposal Includes Newtown Bridge

Governor Ned Lamont introduced his revised transportation plan to House Democrats this morning. It includes 14 tollbooths on state bridges, including one on the Rochambeau bridge along I-84 between Newtown and Southbury.

According to CTPost.com, Lamont's plan proposes tolls in:

• Newtown at the Rochambeau Bridge
• Stamford on I-95 near where the Metro North railroad goes under the nightway
• Westport on I-95 at the Saugatuck River Bridge
• Norwalk on the Merritt Parkway
• West Haven along I-95
• Windsor on I-91 at the Dexter Coffin Bridge
• New London on I-95 at the Gold Star Bridge
• Bridges on Rt. 8 south of I-84 that span the Naugatuck River

The overall proposal will be released to the public tomorrow, includes a $21 billion budget, and is expected to take ten years to complete, according to NBC Connecticut. The tolls in theory would pay for improvements to highways, bridges, and train and bus lines. Tolls would be between 50 cents and a dollar, with a discount for EZ-Pass holders.

The proposal follows several months of revisions to Lamont's earlier proposal, which called for almost 50 tolls throughout the state and and was very negatively received. House Democrats are initially positive on the plan.
