Lamont: Connecticut State of Emergency for the Pandemic Extended to April 20

As of today, January 26, Governor Lamont announced that he has extended Connecticut's State of Emergency in response to the current pandemic to April 20, 2021.

The declaration he signed applies to both the civil preparedness emergency and the public health emergency. Lamont originally declared the emergencies on March 10, 2020 and they were initially supposed to expire on September 9, 2020. As the nature of the pandemic played out, he extended the expiration date to February 9, 2021.

After seeing the current spread of the virus, Lamont held off on the February expiration date, and has pushed the state of emergency to April 20 of this year.

Here is what the governor had to say following his extension,

"The people of Connecticut are to be commended for their actions to prevent the further spread of this virus, and I truly believe that the steps they've taken have made an impact. That said, the virus is not going to suddenly end on February 9, and to eliminate all of these preventative measures on that day would be irresponsible and in many cases life threatening. Our administration remains committed to working in collaboration with the legislature on these emergency orders as we've done throughout this pandemic so that we can provide the best protocols needed to protect the residents of our state."

He additionally took to Twitter to state that he officially signed the order this morning. Lamont stated, "letting it expire now would pull a safety net from under the citizens of Connecticut."
