Keep the Firepit Cold Tonight Connecticut, We’re Still in Danger
Have you noticed that your lips are chapped? Maybe you haven't had to pee as often over the past few weeks? Connecticut is in the midst of one of it's driest spells in years, and although it's 72 degrees in November, you really should cook inside and keep the firepit cold tonight.
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont declared a State of Emergency, and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has instituted a ban on the use of outdoor grills, campfires, firepits, kindling, and the use of flames outdoors in all state parks, forests, and wildlife management area due to severe fire conditions, and the fire that seems as though it will smolder for eternity, the Hawthorne fire in Berlin and Meriden.
Tonight, as the temperatures dip back into the 60's and 50's, winds will gust up to 25-30 MPH, and it's our responsibility to be extra cautious with our cigarette butts, smoking materials, gas and charcoal grills, and the must-have accessory for a warm Autumn night - the Firepit.
According to ct.gov, today's (November 6) Forest Fire Danger Level is Extreme in all of Connecticut. Even if you have received a permit from your local Open Burning Official to burn brush on your property, the permit is not valid if the Forest Fire Danger is rated High, Very High, or Extreme, and you are burning within 100 feet of a grassland or woodland. The burn ban issued by CT DEEP will remain in effect for the duration of the State of Emergency declared by Governor Lamont. Keep the pits cold, there is colder, wetter weather on the way soon.
